Aveda Smooth Infusion Shampoo & Conditioner — The Complete Anti-Frizz System for Florida Hair

If you live in Florida and have any tendency toward frizz, you don’t need us to tell you it’s a problem. Humidity starts before you finish your morning coffee and doesn’t let up until you’re back inside at night. Your hair absorbs that moisture, the cuticle swells, and the smooth blowout you spent 30 minutes on turns into a frizzy cloud. Aveda Smooth Infusion is the shampoo and conditioner built to fight this exact battle.
The Smooth Infusion line uses plant-based smoothing technology to create a natural anti-humidity barrier on each strand. It doesn’t just temporarily flatten frizz — it conditions the cuticle to lie flat and resist moisture absorption, which is the actual mechanism behind frizz. The result is smoother, sleeker hair that stays that way even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.
The Science Behind Frizz
Frizz happens when the outer layer of your hair (the cuticle) is raised or damaged, allowing moisture from the air to penetrate the cortex. The hair shaft swells unevenly, and individual strands push away from each other, creating that puffy, undefined look. There are two solutions: seal the cuticle (so moisture can’t get in) or weigh hair down with heavy products (which kills volume). Smooth Infusion takes the first approach.
The formula uses organic maize and naturally derived guar bean to create a smoothing layer that seals the cuticle without coating it in silicone. Many anti-frizz products use silicone for this, which works short-term but creates buildup, weighs hair down over time, and prevents moisture from entering or leaving the hair. Smooth Infusion’s plant-based approach smooths without those drawbacks.
The Full Smooth Infusion Lineup
Smooth Infusion Shampoo
A lightweight smoothing shampoo that cleanses while beginning the frizz-fighting process. It contains the same plant-based smoothing technology as the rest of the line, so the cuticle-sealing process starts in the shower. It lathers well without stripping natural oils or color, and it’s gentle enough for daily use on all hair types.
Smooth Infusion Conditioner
The conditioner delivers deeper smoothing and detangling. It’s where the bulk of the frizz control happens. Leave it on for 2–3 minutes for regular conditioning, or 5 minutes for more intense smoothing on particularly frizzy or coarse hair. It rinses clean without residue, so you get the smoothing benefit without the heaviness.
Smooth Infusion Perfect Blow Dry
A heat-activated styling cream that takes the smoothing to the next level. We covered this product in detail in our Smooth Infusion Perfect Blow Dry review. Applied before blow-drying, it creates lasting frizz control and humidity resistance that extends the life of your blowout by days.
How Smooth Infusion Performs in Florida
We recommend Smooth Infusion more than almost any other Aveda line at Belt Salon, specifically because of our climate. Clients who switch from non-smoothing shampoos to Smooth Infusion consistently report that their blowouts last longer, their morning styling time decreases, and they can actually leave the house without their hair immediately reacting to the humidity.
The system works best as a complete package — shampoo, conditioner, and Perfect Blow Dry together create layered frizz defense. But even just the shampoo and conditioner alone provide a noticeable improvement over generic or non-smoothing products.
Smooth Infusion vs. Keratin Treatments
Keratin treatments provide more dramatic and longer-lasting smoothing (3–5 months per treatment), but they’re a salon service with a higher cost and time commitment. Smooth Infusion is your daily maintenance system that provides consistent, reliable frizz control through regular use. Many clients use both — a keratin treatment for major smoothing, and Smooth Infusion to maintain and extend the results between keratin appointments.
Where to Get Aveda Smooth Infusion
Available at both Belt Salon locations in Bradenton and Palmetto. Your stylist can assess your frizz level and recommend whether the full Smooth Infusion system or specific products from the line will give you the best results.
Frequently Asked Questions About Aveda Smooth Infusion
Is Smooth Infusion too heavy for fine hair?
No. The plant-based smoothing technology is lightweight enough for fine hair. Fine-haired clients should use the conditioner primarily on the mid-lengths and ends (avoiding the roots) to prevent weighing down the top. The shampoo can be used normally all over. Many fine-haired clients find that Smooth Infusion actually makes their hair look better because it eliminates the puffiness that makes fine hair look undefined.
Can I use Smooth Infusion on curly hair?
If you wear your curls natural and want to define and smooth them, Smooth Infusion can help reduce frizz while maintaining curl pattern. However, if your primary goal is curl enhancement and definition, Be Curly Advanced is the more targeted choice. Smooth Infusion is best for clients who want to blow dry their hair smooth and straight.
Does Smooth Infusion protect against heat?
The Perfect Blow Dry styling cream provides heat protection. The shampoo and conditioner alone do not provide significant heat protection, so if you’re using hot tools, add the Perfect Blow Dry or a separate heat protectant like Heat Relief to your routine.
How long does it take to see results?
Most clients notice smoother, less frizzy hair after the very first use. The smoothing benefit builds with consistent use over 1–2 weeks as the plant-based compounds condition the cuticle. After about two weeks of daily use, you’ll see the full potential of the line.
Is Smooth Infusion safe for color-treated hair?
Yes. It’s sulfate-free and safe for all types of color-treated hair, including highlights, balayage, and permanent color. It won’t strip or fade your color. For clients whose primary concern is color preservation, consider pairing with Color Control on alternate days.
